CWAC Council animal health team advises all bird keepers in the borough of the new national restrictions concerning the control of avian (bird) flu following the declaration of an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) across GB as from 5pm 3rd November. The decision to implement the AIPZ resulted from evidence from Europe and GB of avian flu in wild birds. The current risk for wild birds has increased from medium to high, and the risk to poultry and captive birds has increased from low to medium. The risk to human health is very low.

"The AIPZ means all bird keepers in the borough, whether they have pet birds, commercial flocks or just a few birds in a back yard, are required by law to implement a range of biosecurity precautions." (Cllr Karen Shore (Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highays and Strategic Transport)

Further information on the precautions is available on the Gov.uk website – biosecurity guidance and self-assessment checklists: select option 7. Short advice is shown in the image too.
