We are speechless – quite what does it take to make members of a community proud of the environment in which they live?

We have received this image from a 'Tattenhaller' who was out walking in Jubilee Wood just this week.

It is absolutely unacceptable and frankly disgraceful that anyone would act in such an antisocial way i.e. that they would bag their 'dog poo' and then place it on top of one of the interpretation panels within Jubilee Wood.

This follows a number of litter picking events earlier this month when volunteers in Jubilee Wood and elsewhere observed that:

Dog walkers appear to come in three categories: those that remove their dog waste in the proper manner; those that place the waste in 'poo bags' but then simply throw those bags into the nearby environment and, regrettably, those that do nothing. This was a particular problem for the volunteers in Jubilee Wood. Despite this anti-social activity, the volunteers in Jubilee Wood filled 6 sacks with rubbish in just 1.5hrs.

We contacted TWiG who manage the Wood and they advised us that ... 'the footpaths through the Wood and leading up to the Millennium Mile behind the Cricket Score Board are NOT public rights of way. As permissive footpaths, TWiG have the option of removing access for dog walkers. Whilst they are extremely reluctant to do this, if such antisocial behaviour continues then they will be forced to take appropriate action'.

We welcome your comments.
