Transition Tattenhallhas been trying to address the issues of Climate Change/ Crisis on a more local scale. A further meeting of the group was held in October to share ideas and thoughts about how the community might work together to contribute even in a small way to reduce carbon emissions, on the Butterfly Wing principle that if everyone was to take parts in some of this then major change can happen.
The Repairshopcontinueswith its emphasis on reducing consumption by repairing and reusing household items. It is held on the last Sunday of the month at the Barbour Institute. The Biodiversitygroupincollaboration with TWIG is planning wildflower meadows for next year, TWIG are carrying out a habitat survey and planting more trees.
The Carbon reduction grouplookedat how we could all save money and reduce our carbon emissions, but also are looking at tips on how to stay warm this winter. They will be looking at a range of initiatives to help raise awareness on how energy can be saved, costs reduced, and therefore our carbon footprint reduced, making the links between lifestyle and energy use.
The Climate Justice Group are planning to work with youth groups in a variety of projects- one currently focussed on the Library Shelter- using eco materials to make it more usable.
Businesses in the Village are being encouraged to reduce their use of single use plastics, working towards a Bronze award in becoming a single use plastic free village- the Fish and Chip shop is moving to use wooden forks instead of plastic.
