As we head into the Christmas period proper and as many of us will be out and about on the roads, our 'Concern of the Week' relates to the use of mobile phones whilst driving and/or distractions from the use of your Sat Nav or Radio.

This topic has been hotly debated in the press most recently.

A reminder to everyone; it is illegal to use a hand-held phone or similar device while driving or riding a motorcycle.

The rules are exactly the same if you're stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic.

It's also illegal to use a hand-held phone or similar device when supervising a learner driver or rider.

You must stay in full control of your vehicle at all times. The police can stop you if they think you're not in control because you're distracted. This includes if you're using devices like your sat nav or car radio.

The irony is that some drivers within our own village have paid scant attention to this in recent days. On one occasion most recently, we observed 5 different drivers using their mobile phones whilst driving on the High Street and one of those drivers had a youngster in a carseat in the back of the vehicle!!

So, a sanguine reminder to everyone over the holiday period – PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY.
