Chester Regatta, founded in 1733, is the oldest regatta in the world and a significant event for the city of Chester. It predates both Henley Royal Regatta and the Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race by over a century. The regatta is a cooperative effort by Chester's rowing clubs, including Kings School, Grosvenor, Queens Park High School, Rex, and Royal Chester.

The regatta's origins can be traced back to early rowing traditions on the River Dee in Chester, with documented records of rowing in the area for over a millennium. While Chester Regatta is the oldest of its type, other significant rowing events like Doggett's Coat and Badge (a race for apprentice watermen on the Thames) have also been held continuously since 1715.

Chester Regatta has evolved over time, including the introduction of amateur races in 1832. The regatta has also been a venue for various events, including races for different classes of boats and even for women. In 1840, Royal Chester Rowing Club was granted Royal patronage, becoming one of the few clubs in the UK to do so. The regatta continues to be a popular event, attracting spectators and rowers from across the country.
