Cheshire West and Chester Council is inviting residents to nominate a local war time hero from the borough who is worthy of special recognition.

A number of names will be selected from the nominations to be given a unique and permanent tribute, literally, on the streets of the borough.

To mark 100 years of Council Housing and the "Homes fit for Heroes" which were built for soldiers returning from the First World War, the Council intends to name streets in its new housing schemes after local war heroes.

Councillor Richard Beacham, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Growth, said: "The bravery of those who fought during both World Wars and in more recent conflicts will never be forgotten.

"Their actions are commemorated on Remembrance Sunday every year and on monuments across the borough. As our latest programme of new housing developments takes shape, we have decided that a fitting way to remember these brave soldiers in the year that we mark 100 years of Council housing is to name a number of roads in these developments after these local heroes."

The developments which will feature the special road names are:

  • the former Acorns school, Ellesmere Port
  • the former Rivacre business park, Ellesemere Port
  • Wharton Green, Winsford
  • the land to the rear of the Verdin exchange, Winsford
  • LAPA, Lache In Chester

Send us the name of the war hero who you are nominating, their story and why you feel they should be honoured in this way, along with your contact details.
