After 7 weeks, 630 official miles (though more likely 730 miles!) and climbing the equivalent of Mount Everest nearly 4 times, Martin and Fiona completed their South West Coast Path walk last week. What an amazing experience we have had, from wild and rugged to the urban seaside, steep up and downs to meandering river estuaries. Wading across the Rivers Looe and Erme, to travelling in various small boats to get us over the river crossings.
We have met and walked with many people from all over the world, sharing tips, advice and the odd beer. Through wearing our charity t-shirts we have had conversations with many who hadn't heard of aortic dissection and many who have been affected by Aortic Dissection, whether through loosing a loved one or having had the life saving operation themselves. In fact on our last day, stopping for a coffee at a lovely little beach café about 3 miles from the end, chatting to others under the gazebo, 2 other gentlemen had also had an aortic dissection -- what were the chances of that? 3 survivors in a 3m square space!!
Raising awareness of this sudden and silent killer has been a priority for us on this challenge and the funds raised will go towards helping patients and families as well as improving diagnosis, treatment and medical care.
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us, it means a lot and we are humbled and very grateful. Add to theDonationshere to help achieve the fund target.
