In our last Patient Participation Group (PPG) Newsletter we ran a 'spotlight' on some of the fantastic services offered by our Pharmacists in supporting the local community.

In Tattenhall at the 'Well Pharmacy' on the High Street, our Pharmacist is Brendan Nyss.

With summer holidays now in full swing and with the hot weather set to continue (albeit that there might be some rain this weekend), we thought we'd update you on information regarding insect bites and stings and sun protection and remind you that Brendan and his team are always on hand.

The newly refurbished Pharmacy is almost complete (very swish) and Brendan was pushed for time but we will be running another feature on the refit next week – keep looking at Tattenhall Online.

INSECT BITES & STINGS

  • For most individuals, an insect bite or sting is not serious and will get better within a few hours or days and can be safely treated at home.
  • Other individuals, however, may suffer a severe allergic reaction or be in danger from infection and illness.
  • Bugs that bite or sting include wasps, hornets, bees, horseflies, ticks, mosquitoes, fleas, bedbugs, spiders and midges.
  • Brendan at the Well Pharmacy on the High Street is your 'first choice Pharmacist' for advice and treatment.
  • Some stings can be serious, particularly from a horsefly (described in The Guardian this week as 'the biting scourge throughout the land; they are the mosquitoes of drought).
  • In such cases, it might be necessary to consult a doctor.

SUN SCREEN AND SUN SAFETY AND DON'T FORGET TO PROTECT YOUR EYES!

  • The heatwave is set to continue again next week and it is no longer savvy to spend hours tanning in the hot sun..
  • Sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer – you can burn, even when it's cloudy.
  • A tan doesn't protect your skin from the sun's harmful effects.
  • Aim to strike a balance between protecting yourself from the sun and getting enough vitamin D from sunlight.
