Did any 'Tattenhallers' manage to see the full 'blood moon' lunar eclipse last night – wherever you might have been.

The skies over Tattenhall did begin to clear at one point – ironic after the most spectacular night skies of the last few weeks!

But why does the moon turn red?

  • A 'blood moon' happens when the Earth's moon is in full eclipse i.e. when the Sun, Earth and Moon line up we get a total lunar eclipse.
  • The most impressive part is when the moon is fully in the Earth's shadow, giving it a red look.
  • This is called a 'blood moon'.
  • While it has no special astronomical significance, the view in the sky is striking as the usually white-colour moon becomes red or ruddy-brown.

Let us know if you saw it and send us any of your pics from near and far.
