Aphra Brandreth, Member of Parliament for Chester South and Eddisbury has visited Tattenhall Recreation Club alongside the Premier League, The FA and Government's Football Foundation following significant investment in grassroots football projects across the constituency.
Aphra Brandreth MP has welcomed a record year of investment into grassroots football in Chester South and Eddisbury. The Football Foundation, alongside its partners, has invested £2.3 million across 117 grants since 2000. 43 teams were playing on facilities that've benefitted from this investment last season, including the grass pitches at Tattenhall Recreation Club.
Projects have included the redevelopment of grass pitches and changing room facilities as well as new 3G pitches to allow for year-round play. This investment means that many teams across the constituency can continue to operate and welcome new members from across the community.
During the visit, Ms Brandreth was able to see firsthand the improvements at Tattenhall Recreation Club. Football has been played in Tattenhall for over 400 years and with investment in facilities and the wider football system of the area, the sustainability of sport in the village has been secured for many years to come.
Following the visit, Aphra Brandreth MP said:
"Sport is such an important part of our community with the reach to affect people from young to old. I very much welcome the investment that has been made by the Football Foundation in Chester South and Eddisbury.
"Sport begins at the grassroots level and it is important that allocation of funding is reflective of this. Support from stakeholders such as the Premier League, The FA and Government through the Football Foundation is important and indicative of this. If we want our communities to be more active and healthier we must do what we can to put the facilities in place to enable this. This project here in Tattenhall, and the many that are going on across Cheshire and the country are vital to our wellbeing.
"I wish the teams of Tattenhall AFC the very best for the remainder of the season!"
Liam Devlin, Delivery Manager at the Football Foundation, commented after the visit:
"We were delighted to host Aphra at Tattenhall Recreation Club today so she could see first-hand the impact Football Foundation investment is having on the local community in Chester South and Eddisbury.
"Thanks to the support of our funding partners -- the Premier League, The FA and Government, the Foundation is investing in delivering outstanding places to place like this across the country."
Tattenhall AFC Club Secretary, Simon Marcinkowski said:
"The support from the Football Foundation has been absolutely vital in ensuring that grassroots football in Tattenhall continues to thrive. Without these grants, our club would have struggled to get off the ground, let alone provide the facilities that allow so many players to take part in the game they love.
The investment in our pitches and facilities hasn't just benefited football -- it has had a lasting impact on the entire community. Tattenhall Recreation Club, also known as 'the Flacca', is a hub for local sport, and these improvements have supported not just our football teams but also our cricket club and other community activities.
Grassroots sport is about more than just competition; it brings people together, promotes active lifestyles, and strengthens our village spirit. Thanks to the Football Foundation and its funding partners, we can look forward to a future where sport remains at the heart of our community for generations to come."
