Another Team GBR Selection for Local Athlete

Another Team GBR Selection for Local Athlete.

A few years ago a long standing client of Illingworth Seddon contacted the office to see if we would like to support him when he was selected to represent Team GB at the European Duathlon Championships in Romania. Of course it was a no brainer, and we were delighted to sponsor him for the event in Transylvania.

Since then, Iain Wedge from Tattenhall has been selected a further three times to represent Team GBR, and we are proud to be supporting him once again this year in the forthcoming European Triathlon Championships in Bilbao, Spain.

We were going to try and explain the grueling nature of the event Iain competes in, however has been kind enough to explain the details and how he got there for us:

As you now know, I’ve been selected to represent GBR in the forthcoming European Triathlon Championships in Bilbao, Spain. This will be the 4th time I have been selected having raced in Transylvania, Romania 2019, Punta Umbria, Spain 2020 and Valencia, Spain 2021.

I qualified for Bilbao by winning my age group at The Cotswolds 113 Middle Distance Triathlon.

A Middle Distance Triathlon, also known as a 70.3, consists of a 1900 metre swim, a 90k bike ride finished off with a run over a half marathon. The course in Bilbao looks fantastic but challenging. The swim is along the Ria De Bilbao, the bike is a 51 mile look through the mountains ascending over 4000ft and the half marathon is a lapped course around the City. It will start in the late afternoon so it’ll just be getting dark as the athletes finish.

My training has gone relatively well and I competed in my final preparation race a couple of weeks ago at the Sandman Triathlon in Anglesey where I placed 8th over all and 2nd over 50.

Fortunately the children have been granted time off from School to come and support so it should be a memorable event for all of the family. Thanks once again for your support and sponsorship of my race kit.

We would all like to wish Iain the very best in Bilbao and look forward to hearing how he gets on.
