A great spectacle as 258 runners – 86 teams of 3 – set off from Field Lane at 19:15 hrs, Tattenhall, for the Tough Team Race on Friday evening, 21st June.
The race is just over 9 miles, covering a route through to Burwardsley, part of the Sandstone Trail across Peckforton and Bulkeley Hills, back into Burwardsley and to Flacca Field, Tattenhall; a mixed terrain with road sections and off-road sections.
The sun shone for the start of the race, and a good crowd had gathered to encourage and support the runners – thanks to all those who turned up to cheer and be amazed at the commitment and dedication of the runners.
Congratulations to the overall winning team – 'We couldn't find another Aaron' – completing in a shorter time than last year of 57 minutes and 44 seconds. Well done Arun Dight, Aaron Doyle and Sam Whitehead of Vale Royal Athletic Club.
Second overall winners were 'The Wallabys' – Jack Poland, Oliver Chadwick and Ben Taylor (of Wallasey Athletic Club) – just over 2 minutes later (1:00:40). And just another 2 minutes later were the third overall winners – 'We'd win if we were Ralph' – Oberon Kearney, Noel Ford, and Haggard Kearney from Warriors Pentathlon & Athletic Club, Birkenhead.
There were winners in several categories too – but without doubt all 83 teams were magnificent in competing in and completing the Tough Team Race. Well done everyone.
