Standing Room only at Extra Ordinary Parish Council Meeting

where Taylor Wimpey developers presented their proposal

for 110 houses off Chester Road near the GP Surgery.

Over 130 people from the village and community gathered in the Barbour Institute on Tuesday evening to hear from Taylor Wimpey representatives and to ask questions.

The plans are to build 110 houses of a mixture of 1 – 5 bedroom houses, of which 37 would be affordable houses. There would be a single access road off Chester Road, just about opposite the Surgery access road. Plans include green space for all residents, multiple areas of play, allotments and a wetland and wildlife area. All existing oak trees on site would be kept, and street trees would be planted too.

Many robust questions were raisedby people in the audience, commencing with the reminder that the first application for this proposal was refused by both CWaCC and the Secretary of State on grounds of it being "a sprawling incursion into countryside". However, Taylor Wimpey stated that the situation was different now, as there was no local plan and also the need for CWaCC to reach government quotas for house building.

Sadly, despite the robust questioning, answers from Taylor Wimpey were less convincing, and seemed to rely on their positive discussions and agreements with CWaCC and Welsh Water.

It was clear that no representative could see or understand the concerns about

  • increased traffic;
  • additional strain on local services such as the surgery and pharmacy (which are already struggling with demand);
  • potential greater flooding and increased discharge from the treatment works (which is already three times more than it used to be);
  • how affordable for local young people the 'affordable' houses would be;
  • and a whole host of other issues raised at the meeting.

It is still possible to have your say about the Tattenhall Road development

by completing the survey on thesimple searchsite, quoting the application number 25/01764/OUT; alternatively, you can write to the Planning Department, but be sure to enter the Application number.

The deadline for submissions is 7th August 2025.

Forward your thoughts on both projects to the Parish Council to assist them in constructing their response to the proposals, via Ann Wright the Clerk to the Council at clerk@tattenhallpc.co.uk.
