The planting of 700 trees (all with individual stakes and rabbit guards) and the seeding of 3 woodland glades is no mean feat!
Armed with spades and mallets and wrapped up against a biting wind, you arrived in great numbers to help and for that we thank you. Particular thanks too, to our DofE students who have been working alongside TWiG (Tattenhall Wildlife Group) for the last year, in part fulfilment of their Gold Award.
All 700 trees (supplied by the Woodland Trust) were successfully planted over a 3 day period last week – you ached in places you knew not!
The planting of the new hectare of woodland was officially named by Vicki Ball on behalf of Bolesworth Estate as 'Memorial Wood'.
This has been a collaborative venture between Bolesworth Estate, TWiG, the Woodland Trust and a tenant farmer.
Public Footpath FP2 runs through the new Memorial Wood – new fencing has been erected and a large kissing gate for accessibility and inclusivity has been installed. Access to Public Footpath FP2 is from Burwardsley Road and is clearly signed. The new area of woodland is in support of climate change as well as increasing biodiversity within our Parish.
Enjoy – we simply ask you to keep to the footpath and keep dogs on a short lead as the woodland establishes itself.
