Nearly 100 billion pieces of plastic packaging are thrown away by UK households every year, and just 12% is recycled in the UK.
It's time the government got serious about tackling the plastic crisis. You can help by taking part in The Big Plastic Count!
For one week in March, thousands of schools, households, community groups and businesses will be coming together to count their plastic waste. And you can join them.
Almost a quarter of a million people took part in The Big Plastic Count in 2022. The results revealed that almost two billion pieces of plastic packaging are being thrown away in a week. This year you can help build even more evidence to convince UK ministers to lead the way at the global talks that could finally phase out plastic pollution for good.
If you order a postal pack, it should arrive in early March. In it, there's a tally sheet to make it quick and easy for to record all the different types of plastic packaging waste you use.
The tally sheet can be put up somewhere near your bin before the Count starts, so that you and anyone you live with can see it.
If you order a digital packyou can print off a tally sheet at home, or if you don't have a printer at home, you could try your local library, or ask a friend to print it off for you.
Or alternatively you can tally online. If you're tallying online, save the link somewhere so you've got it to hand, ready for the first day of the Count (Monday 11 March). Remember, only one person in your household can use the tally online.
