Helen Sadler

In the very recent Queen's Birthday Honours a very welcome name appeared which many will recognize — Helen Sadler B.E.M. of Aldersey. She will receive her medal from the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire and will be invited to a royal garden party in 2020. Currently Helen works in Tarporley Post Office but many Tattenhall residents will recognise her from her thirteen year stint working at Tattenhall Post Office.

Helen started getting involved with organisations in 1975 when she was 17, becoming secretary of Malpas Young Farmers Club and later becoming Lady Chairman. She subsequently became secretary of Chester Young Farmers which lead to her becoming County Lady Chairman for Cheshire Young Farmers in 1985 (leading 1500 young farmers had its challenges!).

After having children, she became Chairman of the Beeches Playgroup in Malpas, overseeing a move in premises which saw the committee raising £3000 in just a few months to enable the move to go ahead. With the children starting school, she found herself firstly helping to set up the Friends of Clutton School (and becoming secretary) and later being co-opted on to the schools governing body as a foundation governor for the local church.

Tattenhall Junior Football and Junior Cricket came next with Helen again being put in charge of the finances. Having three children involved, spanning a decade, she probably felt she spent half her life at the Flacca; however it was a no brainer for her to get involved and she thoroughly enjoyed it.

Twenty years ago she took over from her husband, Roger Sadler, as Treasurer of Coddington Parish Room and also a Parochial Church Council member of St Mary's Church, Coddington. She joined Aldersey and Coddington WI in 1981 and she has been secretary and treasurer twice.

Her family, husband, Roger, and children, Will, Richard, Clare and Stuart are very proud of their mother's contribution to the communities of SW Cheshire over the last 40 years; her award is thoroughly deserved.
