Drone's Eye View!

Such a splendid picture – Tattenhall Allotments from the air.

Courtesy of this drone image (taken by Charlotte Thompson, a TAA member) it is incredible to see just how wonderful the allotment area is – organised, full of varied organic produce, and a place of calm, beauty, nature and purposefulness.

Many thanks to the TAA Committee and volunteers who help to ensure that the entire site is well cared for and a safe and inviting area not onlyfor the allotment holders, but for the whole community.

Of course the benefits of allotments are well known:

• the physical health through being active in the fresh air;
• improved mental health though working in a calm, natural environment;
• socially, people of all ages, cultures, races and gender are mixing, communicating and co-operating together;
• everyone helping each other out with support, advice, and giving and exchanging seeds, plants and produce;
• young members of the community benefit educationally, learning about where food comes from, how it is grown and harvested and of the benefits healthy eating from a young age provides.

There are also good environmental benefits:

• reducing the use of energy and materials for processing, packaging and distributing produce;
• fruit and vegetables are grown organically without using harmful pesticides;
• providing good examples of sustainable waste management (and also much re-using, re-purposing, recycling and composting taking place);
• no food is wasted but shared within the community.

It is in fact a local community resource that makes a great contribution to the wider community.
