We first published this article back in May, but we have received yet more complaints and concerns that advertising hoardings are still appearing around the village, not least attached to the school fence.

For information, at the May Parish Council Meeting, concerns were raised regarding the increasing number of advertising signs that are appearing throughout the village.

Whilst it is perfectly understandable that businesses make full use of any local advertising possibilities, it is also about reconciling this with the attractiveness of our village and, particularly, our conservation area.

The Parish Council acknowledge that posters, flyers, banners and signs appear around the Parish of Tattenhall but would remind everyone of the following guidelines:

  • Large, permanent signs which advertise businesses, require those businesses to apply for the appropriate consent from the planning authority, Cheshire West & Chester. This is especially important when signage appears within the Conservation Area in the centre of Tattenhall.
  • Some signage which appears for a very short time in advance of an activity is acceptable – Film Night, the Annual Charity Beer Festival or the Annual Village Show being prime examples. The organisers of these events are responsible for removing their signs as soon as the event is concluded.
  • An advertising board on private land, taken in at the end of each day, is permitted as long as it doesn't impede pedestrians.
  • We remind everyone that there are also a number of community noticeboards in Tattenhall on which posters can be displayed, and on which they can remain for some time.
  • Some forms of advertising are completely unacceptable such as fly posting i.e. placing posters on trees, lamp posts, or fences. Signs which are also placed on grass verges or on the footpaths are not permitted and action can be taken against any business which uses this method of advertising.

The aim of the Parish Council is to keep Tattenhall looking attractive for residents and visitors alike.

To assist with this we ask advertisers to familiarise themselves with the following guidelines CLICK HERE. This information also appears on the Parish Council Website.

We would ask everyone to read this document before placing any advertising around the Parish. If you have any queries, then please contact the Clerk to the Parish Council at tattenhallpc@outlook.com
